What we publish here is the renewal price, because that’s what you actually pay 9 years out of 10 — and ours never moves. Our number is also all-in: WHOIS privacy and that flat renewal are built into it, with no checkout upsells or pre-ticked “protection” add-ons. If year-one price is all that matters to you, a wholesale registrar is the better pick, and we’d rather tell you that than make the wrong sale.

Why the first-year price lies
The headline number on a registrar’s homepage is almost always a first-year promo you get exactly once. GoDaddy advertises .com registrations as low as $0.99 for year one — then renews at $24.99, a jump of roughly 25×. By the time the renewal hits, the domain holds your email, your website, and your logins, so almost nobody leaves. The promo did its job.
We don’t play that game. The price you see is the price you pay — this year and every year. That’s worth less to you if you flip domains annually, and worth a lot if you’re building something you intend to keep.
- No teaser first year. Year one is the same as year five.
- No renewal spike. We never raise a renewal to recover a discount we never gave.
- WHOIS privacy included on every eligible ending — built into the price, never a checkout add-on or upsell.
How this index is built
Two data sources, both inspectable:
- Modusdom prices come live from our own pricing catalog — the exact number you see in your cart is the number shown here. No separate marketing price.
- Porkbun prices are pulled live from the Porkbun pricing API (as of 2026-06-18) — real, current renewal rates.
- GoDaddy & Namecheap prices are hand-sampled from their public pricing pages for the core endings (.com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .co, .us, .nyc, .shop, .xyz). Their pricing pages block automated checks, so for the other endings — marked est — those two columns are modeled estimates: the real Porkbun (near registry-cost) renewal scaled by each registrar’s markup pattern observed across the sampled endings. Treat them as approximate. Spot one that’s off? Tell us and we’ll correct it.
We deliberately exclude first-year promos, bundle-discounts (“free domain with hosting”), and region-specific pricing — they distort the one number that matters. If a competitor figure is out of date, tell us and we’ll correct it; we’d rather be wrong in your favor than be accused of cooking the numbers.

How much does a domain renewal cost?
It depends entirely on the ending (TLD) and the registrar. Across the registrars we track, a .com renews between $11.08 and $24.99/year; ours is a flat $18.99 every year. Other endings vary widely — the table above lists the real renewal price for every ending we sell, next to GoDaddy, Namecheap and Porkbun. The renewal price, not the discounted first year, is what you actually pay year after year.
Why did my domain renewal price go up?
Almost always because the low price you paid was a first-year promo you get exactly once. GoDaddy advertises .com from as little as $0.99 for year one, then renews around $24.99 — a jump of over 20×. By renewal time the domain holds your email and website, so leaving is a hassle and most people just pay. Our price never changes: year one equals year ten.
Do registrars charge more to renew than to register?
Very often, yes. The first-year price is discounted; the renewal is the true rate. On top of that, a handful of endings genuinely cost more to renew at the registry level (for example .io, .co and .org renew higher than they register), so an honest registrar charges the real renewal rate rather than hiding it. We show both realities in the table above rather than burying them.
How much is bulk domain renewal?
We charge the same flat per-domain renewal whether you hold one domain or fifty — there is no bulk penalty and no per-domain markup that climbs with your portfolio. You can renew for multiple years at once at that same flat rate, and transferring domains in or out is always free.
Is WHOIS privacy included in the renewal price?
Yes — on every eligible ending, WHOIS privacy is built into the price you see here, not a checkout add-on. There are no pre-ticked “protection” upsells at renewal.
