Refund Policy
Effective: June 2, 2026 · Version 1.0
Plain-English summary: Domain registrations and renewals are non-refundable — once your order is submitted to the registry, the year is yours. You can transfer the domain to another registrar at any time (free) or let it expire when the term ends. Setup fees, monthly subscriptions, and SSL certificates have their own refund terms below. Talk to us before disputing a charge with your bank — we'd rather fix it.
1. New domain registrations
Domain registrations are final and non-refundable. The moment you complete checkout, your order enters our fulfillment queue and is submitted to the registry — usually within a couple of minutes. Once the registry confirms the registration, the year is yours and the fee is not recoverable from us.
If you typed the wrong domain at checkout and need to stop the order, email billing@modusdom.com immediately. If the order is still queued (not yet submitted to the registry), we can cancel it and refund you. Once it's at the registry, it's done.
You always retain two no-cost exits even though no refund is available:
- Transfer out for free to any other ICANN-accredited registrar after the ICANN-mandated 60-day post-registration lock. The new registrar will add a year, but you keep the full balance of what you paid us.
- Let it expire. Turn off auto-renew (or leave it off) and the domain simply lapses at the end of the term you paid for. No further charges.
2. Domain renewals
Renewals are non-refundable once submitted to the registry. The registry charges us at the moment of renewal and the fee cannot be reversed.
If auto-renew is enabled on a domain, we attempt the charge approximately 14 days before the expiration date. To prevent the charge, disable auto-renew on the domain page at least 15 days before the expiry date.
If a renewal is processed in error (e.g., we billed despite auto-renew being disabled on our end), email billing@modusdom.com within 14 days. If we confirm the error was ours, we will reverse the registry transaction and refund the charge under ICANN's Auto-Renew Grace Period. Customer-initiated renewal-cancellation requests are not eligible.
3. Domain transfers
Inbound transfers are billed at our standard 1-year renewal price for the TLD (e.g. $19.99 for .com). There is no separate "transfer service fee" — you're paying for the year of registration that ICANN mandates be added to every inbound transfer. That year is real and you keep it.
If you cancel before we submit the transfer to the losing registrar (typically within a few minutes of payment), we issue a full refund. Once the transfer is submitted to the registry, the fee becomes non-refundable — the same rule that applies to new registrations.
We do not charge a transfer-out fee. You may transfer a domain away from Modusdom at any time, subject to ICANN's 60-day post-registration and 60-day post-transfer locks. The transferred-away domain retains all paid years.
4. WHOIS privacy
WHOIS privacy is included free on all TLDs that permit it. There is no separate fee, and therefore nothing to refund.
5. Redemption & restoration fees
If a domain enters the registry's Redemption Grace Period and we restore it for you at your request, the restoration fee (typically $80–$150 depending on the TLD) is non-refundable. The fee is paid directly to the registry and cannot be reversed.
6. Setup fees & one-time bundles
Setup fees (e.g., the $299 Done-for-You Launch bundle) are refundable within 14 days of purchase, minus any third-party fees that have already been paid out on your behalf (domain registration, SSL issuance fee, etc.). The unused portion is refunded to the original payment method within 5 business days of approval.
7. Monthly managed-service subscriptions
Monthly subscriptions (Modusdom Mailbox, Full Domain Protection, etc.) are billed in advance. You can cancel any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not prorate or refund the remaining days of an already-billed month. No early-termination fees.
If you are on an annual subscription billed up-front, we will refund the unused months on a prorated basis if you cancel within the first 14 days; after that, the subscription continues to the end of the annual term.
8. SSL certificates
SSL certificates from Sectigo are refundable within 30 days of issuance if the certificate has not been actively used (i.e., not installed on a live server). After 30 days or upon active use, certificates are non-refundable per the certificate authority's policy.
9. Registry-mandated non-refundable fees
Certain TLDs have registry-mandated application or eligibility fees that are paid directly to the registry and cannot be recovered. These include but are not limited to: .ai NIC.AI application fees, .bank verification fees, .law bar credential verification fees, and various ccTLD local-presence service fees. These will be disclosed at checkout when applicable and are non-refundable in all cases.
10. Chargebacks & payment disputes
If you believe a charge is incorrect, please email billing@modusdom.com before initiating a chargeback with your bank or card issuer. We try to resolve all billing issues by direct conversation within 48 hours.
Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us may result in:
- Suspension of your Modusdom account pending resolution
- Forfeiture of any otherwise-eligible refund
- Domain renewal failure if a chargeback reverses a renewal payment
- Recovery of chargeback fees if the dispute is decided in our favor
This policy is industry-standard among ICANN-accredited registrars and reflects the actual costs of chargeback handling.
11. Currency & payment method
All Modusdom prices and refunds are in U.S. Dollars. If your card was charged in a non-USD currency, the refund will be issued in USD; your card issuer's exchange-rate spread between the original charge and the refund is outside our control and not refundable.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method. We cannot send refunds to a different card or to a bank account.
12. How to request a refund
Email billing@modusdom.com with:
- Your account email address
- The domain name or invoice number
- The date of the charge
- A short note on why you're requesting the refund
We respond within 1 business day. Approved refunds are processed within 5 business days. The actual posting to your card depends on your bank, typically 2–10 business days.
