What you actually pay, year after year.
Most registrar comparison pages show first-year promo prices. They're useless. The number that matters is the renewal price — what you pay year 2, year 3, and forever. Here's that number, side by side, updated weekly.

All prices are renewal (year 2+) in USD. Modusdom never bait-and-switches: year 1 = year 2 = year N.
10-year total cost
Because "$0.99 first year, $24.99 renewal" looks great in an ad. It looks worse when you do the math over a decade.

*GoDaddy and Namecheap typically discount year 1 (promo) and charge renewal rate from year 2. We've modeled GoDaddy as $0.99 year 1 + $X/yr renewals, Namecheap as 50% year 1 + $X/yr renewals — their published patterns. Cloudflare + Porkbun have no year-1 promo (flat pricing).
The honest takeaway
Cloudflare is the cheapest
If price is your only criterion, Cloudflare Registrar at registry-cost wins. But: you must use Cloudflare DNS. You get no support unless you pay enterprise. No email hosting. Many TLDs not supported.
Porkbun is the cheapest with a real product
Honest flat pricing, free SSL, free 20 forwards, decent support. Quirky branding. Their email is $2/mo (cheaper than ours).
Namecheap is the safe middle
20% off year one, then honest renewal. No phone support though. Good for solo operators who want decent pricing + a known brand.
GoDaddy is the most expensive over time
Year-1 prices look unbeatable ($0.99 .com), but renewals are 2-25x the promo. Add their pre-ticked upsells and aggressive marketing emails — you're paying for marketing budget, not domain service.
Modusdom is priced for honesty + service
We're not the cheapest. We don't pretend to be. We're priced where you get real human support, deliverability-audited email, and the same renewal price every year — written into our promises page.
If you want the cheapest, use Cloudflare or Porkbun
Genuinely — we'd rather you pick the right registrar than have you here for the wrong reason. Read our "Why Modusdom" honest comparison to figure out if we fit.
How this page works
This page is generated from two data files we keep up to date:
data/pricing.json— Modusdom's own per-TLD pricing. Live, single source of truth. Whatever shows in your cart is what shows here.data/competitor_prices.json— competitor renewal prices, manually sampled from their public pricing pages weekly. Last sampled 2026-05-19.
If you see a competitor price that's out of date, please tell us. We'd rather show wrong numbers in the right direction than be accused of manipulating them.
If you want to verify ourselves: each registrar's public pricing page is linked in the JSON. The page is open in our public repo if you want to fact-check our numbers — we have nothing to hide.
What we deliberately don't include
- First-year promo prices. They mislead. If GoDaddy charges $0.99 year 1 and $24.99 every year after, the meaningful number is $24.99 — what you'll actually be charged 9 out of 10 years.
- Bundled discounts ("free hosting if you buy a domain"). These aren't really domain prices — they're sales hooks for the hosting product.
- Country-specific pricing. Modusdom serves US customers; competitor pricing in other regions can differ.
