Modusdom vs. Cloudflare Registrar
Cloudflare sells domains at registry cost — no markup. They're the cheapest by a real margin and we won't pretend otherwise. The trade-offs are no email, no human support, and you have to use their DNS.
Full disclosure: This is our comparison, so we're biased. Figures are Cloudflare's published at-cost pricing (sampled June 2026) and our published rates. Spotted a mistake? Email hello@modusdom.com.
Quick verdict
- Pick Cloudflare if: you're a developer who already runs DNS at Cloudflare, you want the lowest possible price, and you don't need email or support from your registrar.
- Pick Modusdom if: you want working business email in the same checkout, you'd rather keep your current DNS, and you want a real person to set things up and answer questions.
Side-by-side
| Feature | Modusdom | Cloudflare |
|---|---|---|
| .com price | $19.99/yr | ~$10.44/yr at cost — cheaper |
| WHOIS privacy | Free | Free |
| Email at your domain | Yes — $5/mo, set up for you | Not sold. You bring your own email provider. |
| Use your own DNS | Any DNS — keep what you have | Cloudflare DNS only. You must move DNS to them. |
| Done-for-you setup | Yes — domain + email + DNS configured for you | Self-serve only |
| Customer support | Email + scheduled call, real human, same-day | Self-serve; registrar support is hard to reach |
| Account requirement | Just an account with us | Requires a Cloudflare account + active zone |
| Transfer out | $0, one-click unlock + code emailed | Free (but DNS must already be moved) |
Where Cloudflare genuinely wins
- Price. At-cost registration is the cheapest there is. If raw domain cost is all that matters, Cloudflare wins.
- Best-in-class DNS, CDN, and security. If you're already in their ecosystem, the integration is excellent.
- Built for developers. A great choice for technical users who want infrastructure, not hand-holding.
Where we genuinely win
- Email is included. Cloudflare doesn't sell mailboxes. We set up
you@yourbiz.comin the same checkout, configured to land in the inbox. - No DNS lock-in. Cloudflare requires you to use their DNS. We register your domain with whatever DNS you already use — or none.
- A human to answer. Cloudflare is famously hard to reach for registrar support. You'll get a real reply from a real person, usually within a business day.
- It's done for you. No control panel, no zones to configure. We handle it.
So who is Modusdom for?
If you're technical, price-first, and already living in Cloudflare, they're likely the better fit — and we'd say so. Modusdom is for the business owner who wants a domain, working email, and someone to set it up, all in one place, without becoming their own IT department.
